i need some votes, where is the coolest place you have vacationed in mexico or another beachy place? (no votes for hawaii, and no to halfway around the world)
Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Or actually anywhere on the NW side of the Nicoya Peninsula down there. Shorter flight than you think. US Dollar goes far. Best fruit you'll ever eat.
I can recommend a lot of different places in Mexico - what are you looking for? I have really been wanting to do the Mayan coast, to see the pyramids and the jungles... But then the easy, drivable, trip for us is just north of Ensenada - great surfing and close to a fun city - at Las Gaviotas (you'll find a bunch of rentals searching on-line). You guys could come here and we'll rent a place with you... we've been wanting to go, but haven't found another couple to share a place with, yet... call me.

I have always found Playa del Carmen to be most enjoyable.
