sara hard at work on the green room project.

we did a layer of KILZ for primer (which by the way nearly does kilz you when you inhale it, i had to put sara in a holding tank before alowing her to drive home).

so about a year and a half ago i decided to paint my office chalkboard green just to jazz it up a bit. jazz it up i did, and it seemed like a good idea at the time, but i don't think potential buyers of our house would want a green room. now i have to paint it back to white and it is going to take about 45 coats to get it there. thankfully i have jon's sister sara coming over to do it for us.

good to know that they don't sell half of a pet. it says it there right on the sign.

so if karr isn't charged in jon benet's murder because his dna didn't match, does that mean he is now roaming the streets of boulder?

note to self, and other boulderites: lock your doors real good tonight.

for breakfast yesterday we went on a townie ride to moe's bagels. here's mom and jon gettin' ready to hit the streets.

jon's first ride back since the accident on june 27th. he says that his wrist still hurts and his hand is numb when he rides. hopefully that will go away with time.

here i am riding with the eventual winner megan. more on the race here. (click)

little miss sunshine is the best movie of 2006 so far... oh man, it is so funny, like rolling in your seat funny.

Friday, August 25, 2006

my mom is visiting for a few days. she is usually seen working on jon's christmas stocking. (needlepointing, and yes i may be adopted because i don't see how she finds that fun, and she doesn't see how siting on a tiny bike saddle is fun)

on my ride today i came across this sign right by our house. how did a bear get all the way over to our side of town?

anne gave jon and i a costco size bag of turtle chex mix on her mission to get us real fat. here is what we have observed:

they put way too many pretzles in the mix.

the pretzles don't have chocolate, so we don't eat them.

The seven-time Tour de France winner let the casting choice slip during a conversation with staff at US sports network ESPN.
Lance revealed Matthew McConaughey had been lined up for the role but the movie's producers decided to go with the Brokeback Mountain actor instead.
A source at the network explained to the New York Post newspaper: "Lance said that's why he has been spending so much time with them both this summer."

looks like matthew mcconaughey and lance armstrong like to run together, but they both have ipods on. what's the point of a running partner if you don't have someone to gossip with?

jon on cyclingnews.com ummmmm, famous much?
i think i have cts, no not carmichael training systems, but carpel tunnel syndrome. i am wearing a brace and look like a professional bowler. too bad i am really really bad at bowling.

jon and i are back from our trip. seems that a lot went on in boulder while we were gone. (carter lake being canceled, and jon benet's killer potentially found) it was nice not having internet, television or my cell phone turned on for a week straight, just my family, a lot of birds tweeting, and fresh air. i noticed that i was much more calm without the electronics.
here are some pics from the trip:

pinecrest lake before sunset. jon and i did a LOT of walking and some hiking on our trip.

the cabin in the morning. my mom and her friend mrs. monroe did about five crosswords a day. (pictured), while we did a lot of newspaper reading and talking out on the deck. the monroe's own the cabin and are nice enough to let me family come up there every summer for more than 20 years.

we liked the deck so much that jon and thought sleeping out there was a good idea. here i am on my 1920's cot from WW I or something. (i was later informed that it came with the cabin, which was a real old cabin) since it had springs from when i believe springs were invented this thing practically hit the floor when i got into it. let's just say that comfort was not top priority, but sleeping under the stars was.

we drove this original 1947 willey's jeep around. here is my dad sitting in the back waiting for jon and i. he was sitting there for a good five minutes before we realized he was waiting. i learned how to drive a stick shift on this thing when i was 14 years old. it still runs like a charm, but the clutch had my leg sore after a while.

jon is sooooo boulder. here he is hugging a real big tree.

2nd highest pass in california. i don't know what the first highest is.

jon and his fly fishing instructor mr. monroe. aparently, jon was a natural at fly fishing. i think it has to do with his patient nature. i on the other hand can handle fly fishing for about 15 minutes at a time.
the monroe's own the cabin and are nice enough to let me family come up there every summer for more than 20 years.

next we all went to san francisco. dad and mom stand by the quiet zone sign. we were really happy to see this since we like to go to sleep around 9 p.m. (right when quiet time begins at the hotel)

the view of fisherman's wharf and alcatraz from coit tower. i escaped from alcatraz 7 years ago when i paid some promoter $100.00 and walked off a plank into the shockingly cold bay and swim to the marina. it is something i will never forget, and one of the coolest/stupidest things i have ever done.

we met up with erin alexander one of jon's best buds from college. here they are checking out an oven that we saw on the street. FREE and nice, but air regulations wouldn't let us use it as a carry on. ovens and water are a no-no on the banned carry on list.

we completed our trip with a stop at in 'n out burger at cannery row. the place had to been over maximum capacity. we found there are a lot of beef eaters on cannery row.

free internet at the sacramento airport!!! wow.

the man next to me on the plane was reading mary higgins clark. i can honestly say i have never seen a man reading her material.

jon and i are going to a cabin in pinecrest, CA with my parents for a couple of days or so... (click on the picture for more info) there is spotty cell coverage, no wi-fi, no house phone, no washing machine, and no television. there is an indoor toilet and shower.

i won't be blogging for a while. in the meantime, start your own blog to entertain yourself and send me the link.
today anne and i rode up super flagstaff, when we got to the top we saw a shirtless young boy unicyclist (about 15 years old) that had ridden up flagstaff to walker ranch, did walker ranch and was riding down. (about a 3.5 hour ride, and 3000+ ft of climbing)

wow, we thought it was hard on two wheels and a 27 on the back for gearing. anne complimented him by yelling, "you have nice abs", then looked at me and said, "was that too mrs. robinson?"

it is always fun to ride with anne.

i am painting the deck, it is really easy to paint a deck because you can just slop on the paint and not worry about getting it on the floor/carpet. grass self-cleans, isn't nature amazing.

the kittys came to visit me while i was painting the deck. (thankfully the paint was dry) i got a shot of my neighbor's kitty that has a hair cut like a lion.

lion kitty mooning curious kitty.
news flash: i was incorrect, you CAN bring computers and cell phones on the plane. you still can't bring water through check points. looks like those water fountains lines are going to be miserable. plan accordingly. (or you can pay $3.00 for a 12 oz. bottle)

3. my cell phone
4. my hair gel (to maintain my sleek back don johnson look if there is some turbulence)
5. my suntan lotion (i just like the smell)
6. water!!!! - looks like i am going to be really dehydrated on monday.

things i won't be with out:
1. nail clippers

i had a really nice ride up 4 mile (which really isn't 4 miles) canyon today. i think this road is one of my favorites in boulder. low traffic, beautiful scenery, and some smooth roads.

after my workout i met up with jon and brent at snarf's. too bad they are too cool to smile at a camera. hmmmm, recycle or trash?

camo is cool.

sparky had a good day on saturday, she got in a break and went real fast. it had to be her new orange shoes.

while i was racing jon worked on the deck. he sanded it for about 6 hours. he's going to be real sore today.

when anne and i got home and saw him, he had a sawdust mustache that looked a lot like hitler, right under his nose. (he wiped his face before this picture, but you can imagine how funny it was.)

meeegan came over today to ride with me. i don't think she took the ride too seriously since she opted to put a coffee in one of her bottle cages, and then later told me how dehydrated she was feeling. hummmm, wonder why.

we picked up erin who had just been released from her company's fire drill. i didn't know that they had fire drills once you left elementary school. i guess at metronic they do. (everytime i say metronic i say it with that transformers theme song and it sounds so much cooler) click here

we went for a really fun adventurous ride on all the bike trails around louisville and superior. we came upon this sign that says "caution look our for golf balls". we were real glad we had on helmets.
nothing new going on here, had the girls over last night for dinner. (all pictures turned out crappy). did the short track series on wed. night at research park. that was fun, however i chose to do it on my cyclocross bike and my neck, and arms are killing me because i had to stay in my drops the whole time because of how hard and technical they made the course. that was the last short track race of the year and i am really bummed because it was a BLAST.

co staring with cha-chi may have been the low point of mel's career, not what is going on right now in the media.

last night we had dinner at pan asia on walnut($1 sushi all day, somehow we ended up with an $80 check and i don't remember eating that much sushi). anyway, there is a waiter there, and he calls himself #4. he is a riot. i guess i should have taken a photo with him, but instead i took one of bridget and brandon.

why oh why does this man have the helmet on the BACK of his bike? it wasn't even hot yesterday.

multiple choice:
a. so he won't mess up his curley locks.
b. he has an imaginary friend.
c. he has secret aspirations of being the fonz.
d. he is stupid.

your answer???

even this little old man on a motorized cart wears a helmet. that thing can't go over 5 mph.

even though we had a big bike race this weekend in salida we still had time to do a little exploring around the area. on sunday morning we took a drive up chalk creek canyon to the ghost town of st. elmo.

i was very let down. i guess i was hoping it would be like that brady bunch episode, and would be really exciting. it wasn't exciting at all. no ghosts, and no bradys.

there was this mannequin in the window that looks like a ghost, or it could have been bobby brady.

there are some hot springs in the canyon, but we opted not to join in on the fun. it looked pretty unsanitary in that pool. i think i saw a baby ruth floating.

this is the chalk cliff run off. it runs right by the road, which could be quite scary in rain. just a little history lesson here: it isn't actually chalk. it was formed by kaolinite leaching up from hot springs through cracks and faults millions of years ago from the base of 14,197 foot mt princeton.
