i just got tagged by kristen. therefore, i’m supposed to write 5 (i've written 10) random things about myself that people probably don’t know and then tag 5 other people. (i've tagged 9)
here they are:
1. i hate coming out of a sandwich place (like quiznos) and smelling like it the rest of the day.
2. i lived in a triple wide trailer home with 7 other people in the summer of 1997, best time of my life.
3. i don't like to race national bike races 'cause the "big girls" scare me, and i tend to have a 50/50 chance of crashing by my calculations.
4. i got a D in religion 101 in college (it was so boring). it was my only bad grade.
5. i was an all-american water polo player in high school for all four years. i didn't continue playing it in college because i chose a college without a women's team. i sometimes regret this, but still wouldn't trade my college experience for anything.
6. i studied photography in florence, italy for a summer.
7. i get annoyed when people call my cell phone and i am at home.
8. i am bad at a few sports, and they are: surfing, bowling and golf. i even took golf and surfing in college and i still suck. being good at bowling would be embarrassing.
9. when i was a kid i used to hide candy under my bed. i remember specifically hiding a sugar easter egg and getting in big trouble when my mom found it half eaten. i ate the glue, bunny, frosting and everything. it was quite messy. (click here for a picture of it)
10. jon and i met working at velonews and married each other 4 years later. we have been together for 6 years, married 2. we plan on being married for 70 years, to remind us of this we inscribed "for 70 years" in each other's wedding rings.
i am tagging:
kenny - a funny girl with a funny blog.
c-ray - my vc teammate and friend.
sparky - another vc teammate and friend.
leah - i lived with her in the triple wide trailer.
amy - i wish she was my vc teammate, but she chose webcor instead.
root - my landscaper and friend when not talking about landscaping.
becky - old college swimming buddy who lives in colorado too.
the hammer - old vc teammate and friend.
the hurricane - new vc teammate and freshly engaged.

i've noticed a couple of changes since the whole foods take over of wild oats. one major change is they have replaced the h-bomb infused nutella that we all love with this overpriced hazelnut spread of which i cannot pronounce.

it is really okay though because i stopped eating nutella about two months ago when i got enough proof of purchases to get this free shirt. (and yes, i did say free, but i think that is because someone didn't proofread the shirt before mass producing them.)

i ate four boxes of frosted mini wheats to qualify for this free crappy shreck bowl. i was going to give it to my nephew for xmas (along with other things), but then it turns out shrek is so last year and he is now into ratatouille.

jon and i bolted down from the mountains to the tarkington's for a wonderful thanksgiving dinner.
the annual mother daughter making of the rolls.
i was the d.j. for the night and put on some really good tapes to mix it up a bit.
2007 thanksgiving pie bake off. one was pumpkin pecan pie by the padre, and the richest peanut butter chocolate pie you've ever had made by sara. i can't tell you who won.
sparky works off the unwanted extra calories since she plans on peaking dec. 8th.
she has more on her blog, when she finally blogs about it.

i swear c-ray is always texting, even in the middle of getting dressed for our epic mtn bike ride. if she gets a text then all else waits, and she is on it like white on rice.
c-ray and kenny doing a text book "look both ways" move across lookout mountain road. the bike safety folks should print out this picture and send it to all the young'ens that don't know this secret safety move.
yea, we are at the top, and yes they are wearing matching cotton t-shirts.
i don't know what it is about mountain biking that makes wearing cotton okay. i think it is the cool factor, like, i'm too cool to get cold from all the sweat i produced on the way up kinda thing.
i'm all about synthetic wicking action.

where's judge judy when you need her?

my conversation with the little man at the watch galaxy off of folsom in boulder. (what i now call the watch galaxy of crap)
little man: hello, miss beth?
me: yes
lm: it seems that i have broken the knob on your watch.
me: well, can you fix it?
lm: yes.
me: great then go ahead and work on it.
lm: yes but, it will be $97.00 or so.
me: wait, wait, the watch was fine when it went into the shop and then you just said you broke it.
lm: yes, this kind of thing happens all the time.
me: well fix it free of charge since you broke it.
lm: i cannot do that.
so the bottom line is don't go to the watch galaxy on folsom. the guy sucks, and he breaks expensive watches.
i wish judge judy or judge wapner lived in the denver/boulder area, cause i would be taking this thing straight to prime time small claims court.

i love dr. oz specials on oprah and last week he had this drink that oprah called "a glass of fresh". with a name like that i just had to try it. here's the recipe, and although it sounds gnarly it is quite good.
2 apples, cored
2 big handfuls of spinach
1/2 cup of chopped parsley
3 celery sticks, chopped
1 thumbnail length of ginger root, peeled
1 lemon - juice only
1 medium cucumber
Place ingredients in a blender. Add 4 oz. of water or a handful of ice cubes, then puree quickly for one minute. Makes two glasses.
my end product was bfisk blog green. i really like it, and i am pretty sure i get all of my daily servings of fruits and veggies in one glass.

today i met up with c-ray, jaq attack, and keniqua for a little ride around golden. we stopped at red rocks amphitheater and took a pic. the place was going off.
there were people running every which way, it was complete chaos on those seats/stairs. for some reason they (meaning the fitness freaks) think it is a good idea to run in the amphitheater and not go on the hundreds of trails all around the place. i was quite perplexed.
kenny always keeps a banana & peanut butter sandwich handy in case she bonks.
after our treacherous 1.5 hour ride c-ray and i went over to root's house and she taught us how to winterize our plants.
root has a great view of boulder's flatirons from her deck. yeah and what's with her university of north texas shirt? i'm from texas and i have no idea where this fine establishment is.
today i also found a dog that actually likes me.

pictures from our big trip last week in south texas...

jon and i enjoying the fire and some burnt marshmallows. (i don't have the patience to "brown" them)

mimi swinging ryan.

griffin doing his best impression of a land's end model. i think he nailed it.

in the evenings we go on these jeep tours around the ranch. i always worry about that front bumper falling off, but it never seems to fail.

gracen and i on the tour.

jill and ryan on the tour.

fishing with the family.

the natural fisherman.
very nice.

jon shooting clay birds.
the pet scorpion i had for 3 days until finally i hand to squish him. (they are dangerous little buggers)
good news about the trip is i was never worried about running low on pepper.
i asked someone going out to the store to get some feta for our salad. however, they came back with this. let's just assume they don't have feta in south texas, that would be a good assumption.
very nice.
