fixing the flat on the jogging stroller with a 5 gallon tub of slime. we gotta stay on top of all the cactus thorns, and i think we have them beat. only problem is the strollers rolling resistance is quite high... i'm gonna get so fast pushin' this thing.

by the way, you might not be able to see him due to all his camo, but jon is standing there.

sam went for his very FIRST swim today. we heated up the hot tub, not too hot, and he was in heaven. it was 80 degrees in houston today, so perfect swimming weather.

anne and i hit the road on our cross bikes today. wind chill was like -14 and with how fast we were moving it had to have been like -80 or something. it was the one day of the year i wish i owned a baklava. (wait, i think that's a pastry)

negative temps

this past weekend the temperature didn't get above 5 degrees. this picture is from monday when i just couldn't take being in the house anymore and had to get out with sam. we lasted about 10 minutes on our walk, but at least we got out in the sun.


sam loves the cold. (well, at least i think he does, he can't talk yet so i don't know for sure) when we went out i vasalined up his face, hence the young boy's glow.

tarkington xmas

we celebrated christmas with jon's family yesterday morning.


the yuletide joy was oth (off the hook).


sam got this sweet "green" (even though it is yellow) truck from grandparents, madre and padre.


and he received some books from his aunt. he immediately took them and started reading to everyone... he's so advanced.


jon and i got to ride bikes TOGETHER for the first time in 10 months. we had the baby watch madre and padre while we took to the streets in our matching outfits.

play date

kenny, with baby alex, and i, with baby sam met up for a chariot stroller hike today. here is a pic of the kids all strapped in and ready to roll.


when we got to our turn-around point both of the kiddos were asleep.


then alex and kenny came over for a play date. (i guess that's what the parents are calling it these days. personally, i think that term sounds silly.) they did a lot of staring and then ate.

girl hike

since it snowed about half a foot last night margell, cathy, suzanne, and i took to the trails of chautauqua. it was a beautiful morning and we were pretty much the first people up there hiking. margell was at the front braking the trail with her keds.


we did a lot of uphill.


each of us fell quite a few times. i got my yaktraks all tangled up in my shoes, fell on my face, and had to get rescued by cathy. (kinda like when you tie your shoelaces together)


and when i got home i made some oatmeal and it exploded in the microwave.

sparky's special b-day

we started out yesterday with a team ride. it wasn't a complete team ride though because 3 girls were missing. matt, jenna's husband rode in place of one of the girls.


then we ventured out to the colorado state cyclocross championships. here's a shot of jon taking it to the limit with some sweet moves.


baby sam looked really cute pretty much all day long. and... i didn't have to change him out of his outfit one time yesterday. yeah to not pooping on yourself, mr. sam!


after the race we went out to celebrate sparky's birthday. (sparky not pictured)


we set her up with a drink called the volcano (for two with two straws) and she had a grand ol' time.

jon and i got our christmas tree last night. we've never had our own tree before (because we were kid-less before this year) and a tree is kinda special. i've always wanted to have a house where you could see the tree from the front window, and we now have that. it's nice.


sam loves all the LED (we are so green) lights, and they don't get hot so he can touch them until the cows come home.

tonight we are putting on all the ornaments. my mom made the majority of them and i want to thank her for all her hard work. thanks, mom.

sam's first steps into manhood... i see some baby teeth coming in. no wonder he's been crying more than usual. this lasts for 2 years! crap.

the thaw

i had to thaw sam out after our snow day adventures. he seemed to enjoy the cold and snow. (maybe the only one in the family though)
